Public Safety Event for Ludlow Residents

Join us for a FREE Safety Event at the Linney in Ludlow.

Following the success of our River Safety event, Ludlow Town Council is working in partnership with Shropshire Fire and Rescue along with West Mercia Police and the Environment Agency to launch a Public Safety Event.

This free event will be available to residents in and around Ludlow to learn about river safety, flooding, and public safety.

We encourage people of all ages including children and families to learn about the importance of staying safe near water and general public safety.

James Sutherland, Prevention Officer for Road and Water Safety with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said;

“We are looking forward to this event in Ludlow on the 23rd of August and supporting Ludlow Town Council with their aim to provide increased information for the local community.

This event will enable us and the other partners attending to engage with a greater audience than before and help pass on our key water safety advice.  It will allow the public to ask questions regarding the new throwline boards in town and maybe even have a go at throwing a throwline.

We would like to remind you that however you end up in the water, if you get into trouble, remember to Float to Live.

You can learn how to float by following these five simple steps:

  1. Tilt your head back, submerging your ears.
  2. Relax and try to control your breathing.
  3. Move your hands to help you stay afloat.
  4. Your legs may sink but that’s OK – everyone floats differently.
  5. Spread your arms and legs to improve your stability.

It’s a lifesaving skill and having the confidence to float in a life-or-death situation could make all the difference.

Being in and around the water is brilliant, not only for our physical health but also our mental health…maybe sometimes we could be making some safer decisions and events like this allow us to aid that decision making”.

The public safety event will be held at The Linney, Ludlow on the 23rd of August 12:30pm onwards, no prior booking is necessary.
